Pay Us Now! Picket Tuesday | No ICE/DHS on Campus

Apr 14, 2025

Defending Our Immigrant Students and Colleagues

The Trump administration’s campaign of mass deportation and harassment of immigrants is expanding and international students have become a target around the country, including at CUNY. Student visas are being revoked without notification, sometimes as explicit punishment for political speech, but often for minor legal infractions. The Daily News reported last Wednesday that 17 international CUNY students have had their visa revoked, putting them at risk for deportation, a number that increased by the end of the week and included undergraduate and graduate students.

The CUNY administration has agreed to make daily queries of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) and inform and support students who are impacted. The University’s Citizenship Now program is offering emergency legal consultation for students, faculty and staff. The CUNY CLEAR project provides legal support as well. Visit the PSC’s Immigrant Solidarity Working Group webpage for more information and links to other resources, including Citizenship Now’s emergency contact info and CUNY CLEAR’s travel guidance. You can also join the working group and its committees on the same webpage. The Rapid Response Committee of the PSC’s working group gathered members and students outside the federal courthouse downtown this past Friday morning for a rally in defense of CUNY students.

Tell CUNY: No ICE/DHS on Campus!

The federal government’s escalating attack on universities endangers every member of the CUNY community. The City University’s history as a site of struggle for freedom and mass access to education demands that we at CUNY become a public voice against repression, silencing, erasure of history, and denial of rights. Please sign and share this digital petition and contact your PSC chapter chair to help collect signatures and organize in defense of our students and coworkers.

SIGN PETITION: NO ICE ON CAMPUS!

Vote Jumaane Williams for NYC Public Advocate & Justin Brannan for NYC Comptroller

The PSC has endorsed Jumaane Williams for New York City Public Advocate and Justin Brannan for New York City Comptroller. Both candidates have made funding for CUNY and the rights and wellbeing of PSC members and CUNY students a top priority. They have earned our votes by fighting to ensure that every New Yorker has access to a high-quality college education. Visit our New York City Endorsements 2025 webpage for the full list of PSC-supported candidates.

Tell CUNY: Honor the Adjunct Multi-Year Appointment Agreement!

The PSC has filed a grievance challenging management’s attempt to implement the new multi-year appointment pilot in a way that does not represent our bargaining agreement fully and accurately. We are outraged at the contempt management has shown CUNY’s 11,000 teaching adjuncts and our union. Read more about the disputed areas here.

The agreement is in effect. The fundamental elements of the new multi-year appointments are not at issue. But our union will not allow CUNY management to railroad a flawed implementation of this hard-won pilot program. You can support the grievance by signing this letter to CUNY management expressing your opposition to their distortion of the negotiated agreement.

Educators and Academic Workers Rally for the Right to Learn

At 4 PM on Thursday, April 17, NYC educators, students, workers, and allies are turning out for a mass multi-campus rally in Foley Square in defense of higher education. This is a new location. The previously announced site for the rally was Washington Square Park. Some demonstrators from nearby colleges will meet there at 3 PM to march to the rally at Foley Square.

We are rallying to assert our rights to learn, to teach, to research, to associate, and to protest. We will build a future for higher education free from coercion, censorship, propaganda, transphobia, racism, and anti-immigrant hate. Submit this web form to tell us you’ll be there with the PSC.

I WILL RALLY FOR THE RIGHT TO LEARN

What We Want Wednesdays, April 16

On Wednesdays PSC members call our elected officials to demand the investments we need at CUNY and the government and services all New Yorkers deserve. Watch the PSC website and social media feeds for your weekky call to action and phone script!

NYC May Day 2025, Thurs., May 1, 5PM

Working people across the country have designated this year’s May Day as a day of protest and resistance to destructive policies of the second Trump presidency. On May 1, the international workers’ rights day, unions and community groups from across the US will mount demonstrations to oppose the billionaire oligarchs’ agenda, stand up for the working class and demand a country that is more fair, just, equitable, and free for all its citizens—and not just a chosen few.

In NYC, the PSC will join the unions of the Central Labor Council to mount a mass march through downtown Manhattan. Step-off time will be 5 PM. The march route will be announced soon. Sign up here to march with the PSC.

Pay Us Now! Picket at Tuesday’s CUNY Board Meeting

The State is awaiting final information from CUNY that is needed to process our back pay, bonuses, and raises. Some delay was expected and typical but we are not living in typical times! Our last raises were in November 2022, and it’s infuriating that CUNY management has not completed the process or even communicated an implementation schedule.

We’re taking our demand to be paid to the CUNY Board of Trustees on Tuesday, April 15th. Sign up here to walk the Pay Us Now! Picket Line. We’ll meet outside CUNY Central (205 East 42nd St) at 3:30 PM for the protest and some of us will attend the 4:30 Board of Trustees meeting.

Sign up here to walk the picket line and tell management and the Board to PAY US NOW!
