Adjunct Liaison Leadership Program

The PSC’s Adjunct Liaison Leadership Program trains adjunct activists in many types of work that are essential to our union’s vision. The program works to grow the PSC’s base of part-time member-leaders who have the skills and confidence necessary to organize coworkers and fellow union members to build our collective power.

Participants in the program have an experienced mentor, recieve a stipend, and attend regular training sessions. They sign up new union members, join meetings of the Committee for Adjuncts and Part-Timers (CAP), and engage in other crucial union work.

Program

Adjunct Liaison Leaders (ALLs) will identify part-time staff and faculty on their campus for outreach. ALLs are expected to:

Use PSC lists to identify non-union, part-time staff and faculty and engage in membership outreach, signing up non-members for dues-paying membership.
Help build PSC adjunct power by promoting and supporting PSC adjunct campaigns, both locally on campus and union wide. Work with PSC leadership and organizers to ensure that local campaigns are coordinated and integrated into broader union programming and messaging.
Learn the contractual provisions and resources available to adjunct faculty to, in turn, become a resource to other part-time PSC members. (E.g., sharing information on how to file a grievance or access unemployment insurance information.)
Work with the PSC’s Committee for Adjuncts and Part-Timers (CAP) Action Team, which organizes on local campuses and across the CUNY system to advocate for adjunct issues.
Recruit adjunct PSC members to participate in campaigns of the PSC at-large, the CAP Action Team, and their chapters. Help build unity and cross-title solidarity across the union.

The program includes two to three trainings per semester. Trainings may be held in-person at the PSC Union Hall or online via Zoom. Meetings will be held twice a month, one at the PSC office and one over zoom.

ALLs will receive a stipend of $3,448 per semester, or $6,986 per academic year. This is the equivalent of one 3-credit course salary at the adjunct lecturer title.

Qualifications

Is a member of the PSC working in a part-time position at CUNY.
Passionate about meeting new colleagues and speaking to them about the importance of joining our union and getting involved.
Active listening skills.
Enjoy working as part of a team.
Enthusiasm about representing the PSC.
Prior involvement in your campus chapter or a committee is a plus.
Ability to dedicate time every week to being present on campus speaking to PSC members and non-members.

Process

ALLs will be selected through an application process with the goal of having ALLs on many CUNY campuses. Selection will be made by PSC executive council representatives.
The ALLs Program will run from Fall, 2026 through May 2027.
ALLs will work closely with Chapter Chairs and PSC’s Organizing Department to develop and implement plans.
Once selected, ALLs will work with Chapter Chairs, PSC’s Organizing Department, and EC part-time personnel officers to develop individual and collective plans for the academic year that includes goals for membership outreach, participation in chapter activities, participation in CAP, etc.
Applications are due August 28, 2026.
Applicants under consideration will be contacted for a virtual interview.
All applicants will be notified of a decision by September 14th.
