Labor Day March Next Tues. | Adjunct Pay Dates

The city’s labor movement will come together on the Tuesday after Labor Day to rally and march through Lower Manhattan. Sign up here to be part of the PSC contingent.

Our union will meet at 4:30 PM at the 140 Broadway Plaza across the street from Zuccotti Park, by the Red Cube sculpture (map).

The rally will begin on Liberty Street between Church Street and Broadway, with the march proceeding north on Church Street before turning onto Worth Street. The rally will start at 5:00 PM, and the march will step off at 6:00PM

For the Fall 2026 semester, teaching adjuncts are scheduled to be paid on eight successive adjunct pay dates. At the senior colleges, the first pay date was Thursday, September 3 and the last pay date will be Thursday, December 10. At most community colleges, the first pay date will be Friday, September 11 and the last pay date will be Friday, December 18. LaGuardia, Kingsborough, and Guttman community colleges are on a different schedule. Their first and last Fall session pay dates are respectively Friday, September 25 and Friday, December 31. All adjunct pay dates for the academic year are posted here on the PSC website.

Teaching adjuncts received raises on January 26th and September 1st of this year. Their pay will increase again on June 1, 2027 when the pay structure for teaching adjuncts changes from an hourly structure to a per-course structure based on the number of contact hours. The event will be held at the DCTV Firehouse Cinema, 87 Lafayette Street (entrance is around the corner on White Street between Lafayette and Centre Streets. Map.) The film by Patrick Bresnan examines the hostile takeover of the New College of Florida by Gov. Ron Desantis. The discussion with Pat Okker, former New College president, and Amy Reid, former chair of New College Gender Studies department will be moderated by PSC President James Davis

In 2025, colleges throughout the county declined to sign President Trump’s “Compact for Higher Education” because student and faculty groups organized and soundly rejected it. The compact was effectively a loyalty oath intended to undermine teaching, research, faculty governance and campus free speech. On August 3rd, Secretary of Education Linda McMahon released a “Call to Action” letter to colleges (Trump’s Compact 2.0) urging them to post statements committing to “reforms” aligning with Trump’s anti-DEI, history- and science-denying higher education agenda. PSC President James Davis was appointed Thursday by the Executive Council of our affiliate, the American Federation of Teachers, to serve as one of three co-chairs of the national union’s Higher Education Program and Policy Council (PPC). The PPC guides the priorities and sets programming for the AFT’s higher education division, representing some 400,000 academic workers.

Working through the council, Davis will help to lead the national Saving Lives, Building Futures, Powering the Economy campaign to strengthen and transform higher education, and defend against authoritarian attacks on academic freedom and research funding.

The PSC Adjunct-CET Professional Development Fund is hosting a hybrid workshop to raise awareness of the funds available to teaching adjuncts and continuing education teachers. Learn about the fund’s history and eligibility requirements and hear from awardees across disciplines about their experience applying, how they used the grant, and its impact on their teaching and students.

The PSC’s Teacher Education Working Group invites teacher educators throughout CUNY to participate in our second annual research forum. The theme of this year’s conference is “Educator Power: Resistance, Justice, Healing.” There is no cost to attend this day-long forum at the PSC Union Hall (25 Broadway, 15th Floor). Join us to demand better, build community, and make space to heal. All educators are welcome. Coffee, lunch and afternoon refreshments provided.
