Tell Governor Cuomo Not to Veto CUNY Funding
Governor Cuomo has until Dec. 11 to sign or veto legislation that overwhelmingly passed the Assembly and Senate to protect educational quality at CUNY and SUNY. 3,600 PSC members have already sent an e-letter urging him to sign it. Hundreds more have tweeted (#CuomofundCUNY) a link to the letter or posted it on Facebook. Send the letter now.
The “Maintenance of Effort” (MOE) bill would require the state to fund predictable increases to operating costs at CUNY and SUNY for such expenses as utilities, rent and salaries. It would ensure that tuition hikes are used to enhance education at CUNY and SUNY, rather than to offset underfunding from the State. And it would fund future years of collective bargaining increases in our salaries, allowing CUNY to retain and attract the faculty and staff our students deserve. We need to make sure that the Governor hears loud and clear that the people of New York expect him to sign the MOE bill. Please do your part: send this letter if you haven’t already and share it on Facebook and Twitter.

Communications about the New Rx Drug Benefit Company
The PSC-CUNY Welfare Fund has made a change in the company with whom it contracts to provide prescription drug benefits. As of January 1, 2016, the Fund’s drug benefit will be provided through CVS/Caremark and its affiliate, SilverScript, for Medicare-eligible retirees. The Welfare Fund has delivered several messages about this change to plan participants. If anyone currently participating in the Express Scripts system has not received notification from CVS/Caremark or SilverScript, it is possible that an incorrect address is on file. In that case, please immediately email the Welfare Fund at [email protected].
Labor Goes to the Movies Presents Caché—Dec. 11
The union’s film series explores the theme of “Surveillance” on Fri., Dec. 11, in the PSC Union Hall (61 Broadway, 16th floor) with a screening of Caché (Haneke, France/Austria, 2005). A bourgeois French family watches its own life being filmed as mysterious, impossible videotapes arrive at their door. The tapes trigger revelations of a childhood injustice against an Algerian playmate of the protagonist. The repressed personal “memories” in fact parallel a real 1961 police massacre of Algerian immigrants in Paris. $2 suggested donation. Doors open at 6 PM. Refreshments provided.
