Support Stronger Rent Laws

It is urgent that you express your support for legislation in Albany to extend and strengthen rent laws to keep housing in NYC affordable and to maintain diverse neighborhoods. After more than 5 years without a collective bargaining agreement, more and more PSC members are hard-pressed to find housing they can afford in NYC. (Read “Power and Rent”, a viewpoint piece published in this month’s Clarion for more information.)

Whether you are directly affected or not, voice your support—on behalf of your family, your colleagues, your students, and your community.

The same legislators who have supported State funding for the PSC contract tell us that New Yorkers must be visible in their support of stronger rent laws.

Statement of Support

I join my union, the Professional Staff Congress, in supporting the efforts of elected officials from NYC to extend and improve the State’s rent regulation laws, which expire June 15, 2015. More than 2 million low, moderate and middle-income New Yorkers live in rent-stabilized housing. The State Legislature must renew the rent laws and reform them to end vacancy decontrol, eliminate the vacancy bonus and make capital improvement surcharges temporary.
