Wear Red for Ed at CUNY on May 1st
May Day is the international workers’ day of action. This year, May Day will also be the day on which Félix Matos Rodríguez takes office as CUNY chancellor and the 518th day that PSC members have been working without a new contract. PSC members and CUNY students will wear #REDforED this May Day to a demand a fair contract with raises for all CUNY faculty and staff and $7K per course for adjuncts. Across the country, teachers in militant struggles and on strike have made #REDforED synonymous with their demands for respect, fair pay and adequate funding for public education. Tell the Mayor and NYC Council to increase City funding for CUNY
Send this letter urging the Mayor and your NYC Council member to support increased City funding for wage justice and educational justice at CUNY. The City’s small share of funding for the senior colleges hasn’t increased in two decades, and funding for CUNY community colleges must increase to help fund the next PSC contract. Queens College Hearing on the Future of CUNY
Faculty, staff and students from throughout the borough of Queens testified today at a hearing organized by the Queens College PSC chapter. State Senators Toby Ann Stavisky and John Liu were there to hear about the union’s contract struggle and the impact of underfunding by New York State on the quality of education at the City University of New York. At the hearing, Senator Liu publicly criticized the CUNY administration for not fighting hard enough during the budget process and urged the incoming chancellor, Félix Matos Rodríguez, to speak up more. March with the PSC on May Day, May 1
Labor and immigrant rights groups, along with many other allied organizations, will come together on Wednesday, May 1st in a strong show of force against the anti-worker and anti-immigrant policies coming from this White House. PSC members will march in solidarity with our immigrant co-workers, students and neighbors, and to demand respect and fair pay for all workers, including the full- and part-time faculty and staff at CUNY. Should an Anti-War Union Oppose U.S. Sanctions?
A PSC-CUNY Roundtable, May 1
The U.S. Treasury Department says sanctions “accomplish foreign policy and national security goals,” such as the overthrow of the government of Venezuela. A roundtable discussion sponsored by the PSC International Committee will address the question: Are sanctions a weapon of modern “hybrid war” or a diplomatic tool? The discussion, featuring experts on U.S. foreign policy in Venezuela, Iran and Russia, will be held in the PSC Union Hall (61 Broadway, 16th Floor) on Wednesday, May 1 from 6-8PM. Download a flier.
