This Week in the PSC

This Week in the PSC (09.24.18): Contract Demo. Thurs., 4 PM | A Make-or-Break Election

Jan 02, 2019

Contract Demonstration—Thurs., Sept. 27, 4-6PM
March from NY Stock Exchange to CUNY Board Chairman William Thompson’s Office

PSC members will march this Thursday, Sept. 27, to the investment banking office of CUNY Board of Trustees chairperson William Thompson. Be there with us to call out Wall St. for hoarding wealth while CUNY is starved of tax dollars. Be there to demand that Bill Thompson take a stand for the public funding needed to ensure raises for all CUNY faculty and staff, $7K per course for adjuncts, and a better life for CUNY workers and CUNY students. Be there to demand a fully funded contract that doesn’t cannibalize academic programs to pay for the raises we deserve.

Meet at the NY Stock Exchange (corner of Wall St. and Broad St.) at 4 PM. The demonstration will be first at the Stock Exchange and then in the plaza outside Thompson’s office building (100 Wall St) between 5 – 6 PM. Click here to RSVP if you haven’t already and here to help spread the word.

This is a Make-or-Break Election
Help PSC Members Get Out the Vote

In the General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 6, New Yorkers will cast their ballot for Governor, Attorney General, members of the Assembly and State Senate, and Congressional Representatives. The PSC and our statewide affiliate NYSUT are supporting candidates up and down the ballot who will support increased investment in CUNY and oppose the harmful policies of the Trump Administration. PSC members are going all in on local Senate and Congressional races, especially for Andrew Gounardes (Brooklyn, SD 22) and John Liu (Queens, SD 11), whose elections could change the balance of power in the (now IDC-free) NYS Senate, and Max Rose (Staten Island/Brooklyn, CD11), who is running to help take back the U.S. House of Representatives from the Party of Trump. Click here to volunteer for weeknight phone banking and door-to-door labor walks on Oct. 20 and 27.

Theater Works! Performance/Playwriting Workshop on Caregiving at CUNY

The Center for the Humanities at the CUNY Graduate Center, in collaboration with Working Theater and PSC/CUNY, is offering a free 12-week playwriting and performance workshop series open to PSC members caring for an elderly, ill, or disabled family member. Participants will develop and perform a piece about the care relationship, the labor involved, and its impact on their life and work. Workshops will meet Wednesdays, Oct 10 – Dec 5, 6-8 PM. Application deadline: Mon., Sept. 24. Click here to apply.
