PSC/CUNY – MEDGAR EVERS COLLEGE CHAPTER MEETING HELD WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2018, 11.30AM in Room AB1-312

The meeting was called to order by Dr. Clinton Crawford, Chair, PSC/ MEC who welcomed all in attendance, and the minutes of September 26, 2018 were read and approved as read.

THE AGENDA:

Labor-Management Meeting Report: 1) Entry to the Parking Lot by legitimate ID has now been established. All were encouraged to go to floor C of the AB-1 building to update IDs as soon as possible. 2) The Parking Lot is now fully surveyed. LED lighting is still needed on the perimeter but members expressed appreciation for the changes that have so far been made.

Parking: Parking Lot Passes are now at $300.00 annually as opposed to $365.00.

Security: 1) Valid IDs will be needed for entry to all the buildings where turnstiles are being installed. 2) Concern was expressed regarding protocols for entry and exit by members of the outside community. 3) Back entrance of the AB-1 building has not been working properly. Faculty need to be able to enter with a key or ID card. 4) Public Safety has been asked to conduct a Safety and Security seminar at a PSC meeting.

Malfunctioning Keys: All were informed by the Chair to have malfunctioning keys changed for new ones.

Heating and Air in AB-1 building: very hot in winter and very cold in summer.

Vents: Cleaning of the vents in the Bedford building has been completed but the bathrooms are still in an unacceptable state. Ventilation is extremely poor.

Thank You: Dr. Crawford publicly thanked Cristina Migliaccio for single-handedly providing the food for the meeting, her second meeting at Medgar Evers College.

New Contract: The PSC contract team has been meeting since spring, 2018 but no offer yet from CUNY regarding $7K per course for adjuncts and 5% increase for full timers.

Long Term Agenda for 2018-19: The volunteered groups, namely, 1) Social and Political Opportunity, 2) Membership, 3) Policy Reading, 4) Engagement, 5) Social Entertainment have not yet met. Opportunity was given for members to re-introduce ourselves to each other and it is hoped that more members will connect to the groups thus ensuring our continued engagement with each other. From the engagement exercise sprang the expression of the need for a research bench for science adjuncts. The need was also expressed for a Research Publication group and the suggestion was made for the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) to be seen as the support arm for faculty research.

Adjournment at 12.33pm
