Environmental Justice Committee Meetings will be in two parts — (1) a business meeting and (2) a speaker. Until further notice, meetings will be on Zoom, 5:30-7:30 pm.
Monday, May 10, 5:30 – 7:30 pm — Presentations and discussion on what food/climate-related policies and campaigns are happening in NYC and CUNY and how we can support/join these efforts.
- Craig Willingham, Deputy Director of the CUNY Urban Food Policy Institute, a research and action Center at the Grad. School of Public Health and Health Policy, has developed healthy food strategies at CUNY and in NYC.
- Karla Ignacio, a CUNY Youth Food Justice Leadership Fellow, will speak on the
CUNY Food Navigator Project at Swipe Out Hunger.
- Mike Menser, Professor of Philosophy and Sustainability, Brooklyn College and the Graduate Center, will speak on urban gardens throughout CUNY and other compelling environmental projects.
- Zoe Schacht-Levine, President of the Student Senate at CUNY School of Public Health, chair of the University Student Senate Sustainability Committee and organizer of the CUNY Climate Coalition. She’ll be speaking on the joint projects USS shares with the PSC and NYPIRG around CUNY fossil fuel divestment, clean water fountains and composting in food service areas.
