Speaker/discussion facilitator: Professor Mustapha Khan, Brooklyn College, is an award-winning filmmaker.
Mississippi Masala (1991) is a film by Mira Nair, mother of NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The film begins with Idi Amin’s announcement of the expulsion of Indians from Ugandan soil. The film follows the immigration of one family to the United States south. While the parents struggle to settle in the US, building ties with other Indian immigrants, their daughter ventures outside that world, meeting a working-class Black man who opens a loving multi-racial future.

The link above will admit you to a Zoom meeting where you can watch Prof. Khan’s introduction, followed by the film, and then Prof. Khan’s remarks and Q & A.
