No Excuses for CUNY Management’s Fake Austerity

March to #FreeTheFunds

Wed., Apr. 28, 4:00-5:30 PM

RSVP here.

Where

March with the PSC from the CUNY Graduate Center (365 5th Ave.) to the CUNY Central Administration building (205 East 42nd St.) with stops to protest in front of the NYC offices of Governor Cuomo and the office of the “global asset management company” with CUNY Chancellor Félix Matos Rodríguez on its board of directors. Masks and physical distancing required for the in-person march.

Why

The federal government has allocated CUNY colleges almost a billion dollars in stimulus funds that can be used for institutional purposes related to the pandemic, including to rehire laid-off adjuncts, to restore class sizes and course offerings to pre-pandemic levels and protect our health and safety. CUNY has disbursed millions in direct aid to students, but only $51 million in institutional spending has been disclosed so far.

PSC members and our allies fought for—and won!—a state budget that rejects all the cuts proposed by Governor Cuomo and increases funding for CUNY colleges through reforms to close the TAP Gap and expand opportunity programs.

The CUNY budget is stabilized. The CUNY administration has no more excuses for maintaining the austerity measures they forced on us last year. It’s past time to #FreeTheFunds and use the stimulus money as intended, to protect the quality of a CUNY education and the livelihood and safety of CUNY workers.
