Friday, June 17, 9:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the PSC union hall
Saturday, June 18, 9:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. starting in the union hall and finishing with home visits
Starting in 2017, NYSUT began offering the Member Organizing Institute (MOI) to train NYSUT members to do home visits with other members of their locals. The program includes: an initial 2 day training, feedback from NYSUT organizers and support for activists to do up to 12 four-hour home visit shifts over the course of the summer. NYSUT pays $25/hour for the home visit shifts, which activists can do on their own schedule.
We’re excited to announce that, for the first time, NYSUT is offering the MOI to a cohort of PSC members. This will be a great opportunity for us to get deeper trainings in doing one-on-ones. It’s also a great chance for us to reach many more of our non-members and involve them in the union before the contract campaign intensifies in the fall. For many of our non-members, especially adjunct non-members, the only good contact information we have are home addresses. When we’ve done home visits in the past at the PSC, we’ve reached bargaining unit members who we never found on campus.
