Student-Faculty Higher Education Action Day, March 15

Join your PSC colleagues and CUNY students at the Student-Faculty Higher Education Action Day in Albany on March 15th. Sign up right now, and we’ll register you to take part in one of about 100 lobby visits attended by students, faculty and staff from CUNY and SUNY.

The Action Day is cosponsored by the PSC, the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG), University Student Senate of CUNY (USS), United University Professions (UUP) and New York State United Teachers (NYSUT). Our working conditions are our students’ learning conditions, so it’s natural—and exciting—that we’re partnering so closely together.

This is an all-day event. Buses will depart at 6:30am and return after dark. It will be a long, but empowering day. Exact bus pick-up/drop-off locations will be decided as the day approaches, but the PSC will make sure that there is a stop in each borough, and that each stop is located near a CUNY campus and a subway line.

The day will start with a briefing from student and faculty leaders and end with a joint news conference on the steps of the State Capitol. Food will, of course, be provided.

To sign up, contact Amanda Magalhaes. Students can sign up by stopping by their local student government or NYPIRG office or by contacting NYPIRG Legislative Intern Uruj Sheik.

Our Joint Platform for March 15th. This is a negotiated platform that represents a balance of the positions taken by all of our coalition members—NYPIRG, NYSUT, PSC, USS, and UUP. Progressive taxation, unemployment insurance for contingent faculty, and other important issues that are not listed here remain major planks in the PSC’s platform.
