Court Order Holds Up CUNY Tuition Hike; Full Board of Trustees to Vote August 3rd
In response to a lawsuit filed by three Lehman College students, a state Supreme Court judge signed an order blocking the $300 tuition increase passed by the Executive Committee of the CUNY Board of Trustees on the grounds that state law requires the entire CUNY Board of Trustees to vote on any tuition increase. A public meeting of the entire Board of Trustees is now scheduled for August 3rd at 4:30 PM at Baruch College in room 14-220. Read the tuition resolution and PSC’s statement opposing tuition hikes.
More Accolades for Clarion
The International Labor Communications Association has awarded Clarion first place in the category of General Excellence for 2010. News of this honor comes just weeks after PSC communications staff received a total of eight prizes from the Metro New York Labor Communication Council, including awards to Clarion for best reporting and best editorial.

President Obama and Congressional leaders have agreed to a framework for a budget deal that would raise the debt ceiling and begin to address the budget deficit with trillions of dollars in cuts to federal spending. New tax revenues are not included in the agreement. Paul Krugman in his Monday, August 1st NY Times Op Ed wrote that the debt ceiling deal amounts “to an abject surrender on the part of the president.” The White House obviously has a different analysis.
