Pledge to Take May Day Action
with the PSC
Friday, May 1st and All Week
Click here to pledge to take action with the PSC the week of May Day. We’ll be wearing red at work, blitzing campuses about May Day and union membership, attending local campus events, and marching in the citywide May Day mobilization on Friday, May 1st. At 4:30 PM on May Day, we’ll gather at Washington Square Park with tens of thousands of fellow New Yorkers organized by labor unions, immigrant organizations, and community groups. We will be stepping off at 5:30 from Washington Square Park and then march to Foley Square. The theme for the protest is “We will not be silent. Workers Over Billionaires.”
The NYC Central Labor Council, the NY Immigration Coalition, the PSC, and other groups are making May Day our single highest priority day of action of Trump’s term so far. The PSC needs to strengthen our organizing muscle to be ready for the threats that are still ahead, and May Day is our next big test. We’re organizing to double our No Kings turnout for the May Day protest march. If you’re ready to help strengthen our union to defend our institution and our democracy and get ready for the next contract fight, click here to be a May Day Captain for your worksite.

Mayor Mamdani Must Veto 175B
Rally to Protect Free Speech and Safety
City Hall on Thursday, April 16th at 12 PM
Last month, Intro-175-B, a bill that would require the NYPD to establish security perimeters around educational facilities, was passed by the City Council. However, thanks to PSC members’ advocacy, the bill doesn’t have a veto-proof majority. Now we need to demand Mayor Mamdani veto the bill and keep the pressure on council members to not override his veto. The bill has been presented as a solution to keep students safe during protests, but instead it would limit free speech and increase NYPD presence at campuses. Join the PSC, higher education unions, the Peoples Plan Coalition, and others as we rally to defeat the bill.

Brooklyn Korean War Veterans Plaza (near Borough Hall), PSC Union Hall if weather is bad
This in-person event will highlight testimonials from our Brooklyn health and safety activists, backed by a Gallery of Horrors that visualize the poor health and safety conditions and crumbling facilities we all know only too well. Click here to let us know you’ll be there. We are also inviting elected officials and the press to witness how unresponsive our college administrations routinely are. While focusing on Brooklyn, we will highlight the systemic neglect that affects our working conditions at all CUNY Campuses. PSC members from every borough are urged to attend!

Demanding Health and Safety Action at the CUNY Board of Trustees Hearing

PSC members testified at a hearing of the CUNY Board of Trustees held Monday, April 6th at City Tech. Most spoke about the crumbling condition of our campus facilities and the health and safety risks that we are too often exposed to in the workplace. They testified about mold in libraries, leaky ceilings, construction debris and silica dust, failing HVAC systems, and more. Written and video testimonials demanding action to protect health and safety at CUNY are posted here.
Adjunct leaders also testified at the April 6th hearing. Vice President for Part-time Personnel Lynne Turner and John Jay College Co–Chapter Chair Elizabeth Hovey both blasted management for, as Turner put it, “placing unreasonable impediments to incorporating adjunct faculty assigned to academic programs into our bargained multiyear appointment.” Click here for their testimony.

The PSC teams that protect the contract
The PSC contract enforcement and legal teams don’t just serve members who have a grievance: these are multifaceted departments whose complex and extensive work informs all areas of the union’s efforts, including collective bargaining strategy, member organizing, legislative work, and more.

Equity raises bring big boosts
One of the biggest gains of the last PSC-CUNY contract, in addition to substantial across-the-board wage increases, was equity raises for titles that needed them most. These raises exceed the across-the-board annual negotiated increases in an effort to improve equity and make gains for CUNY’s lowest paid faculty and professional staff titles.
