Join Bernie Sanders and the PSC at Lehman College to Say: Invest in CUNY, Tax the Rich!

New York State is in the final weeks of this year’s budget negotiations, and there is so much on the line. We need strong CUNY funding to protect our jobs and expand our ability to serve students. We need the universal childcare, improved access to transit, and expanded affordable housing that Mayor Mamdani’s campaign championed. And we need wealthy corporations and the super rich to pay their fair share of taxes to make these critical investments possible.
The PSC is playing a key role in organizing a powerful rally at Lehman College in the Bronx this Sunday, March 29th, featuring Senator Bernie Sanders, along with local advocates who are calling for the progressive tax system we need in New York State. Programming will begin around 1pm, with PSC President James Davis scheduled to speak at 1:30pm, and folks are encouraged to arrive early to ensure they can get in. Please, register to join us there.
A huge turnout, and a huge union presence within that crowd at our own CUNY campus, will have a real impact on the final budget. Tell us you’ll be there!
PSC Members Meet at 1:30PM, Step Off at 2 PM
No Kings, Saturday, March 28
Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers will protest and march this Saturday at the next No Kings mobilization. It’s expected to be bigger than the last two events–the largest mass day of protests in United States’ history. March with the PSC to say fight back against fascism and hate. March with the PSC at the next No Kings on Saturday, March 28th to oppose hated and fascism and say No hate! No fear! No ICE! No Kings! We’ll have signs and banners and some union swag. Wear your red PSC gear if you have it and bring friends and family.
The PSC contingent will gather by 1:30 PM at 62nd St. and Central Park West on the park side (map). Look for the union staff in red PSC vests to check in and get a sign. We will step off at 2 PM heading south down Broadway. At Times Square, we will converge with another stream of the march heading down 7th Avenue before dispersing at 34th Street.
Register here to tell us you plan to march with the PSC at the next No Kings.

City Budget Testimony
PSC President James Davis testified last Friday before the New York City Council Committee on Higher Education at a hearing about funding for CUNY in the city budget. The Mayor’s preliminary budget for Fiscal Year 2027, released while the state’s funding plan for next year is still being hashed out in Albany, increases CUNY’s overall budget by nearly $25 million dollars but holds funding for staffing levels flat from last year. In response to that initial commitment, President Davis said, “We recognize the importance of that investment, particularly at a time of fiscal strain for the city. But enrollment growth at the current scale requires pedagogical investments to ensure students have the faculty and staff to guide them to timely graduation.”
His testimony laid out a platform for full funding of CUNY that includes funding to rebuild the ranks of the University’s faculty and staff, expansions of the college success programs ASAP and ACE, a pilot program of free transit for CUNY students, capital improvements, and more. Read the full testimony here or watch the video here.
Down With Political Blacklisting at CUNY

On Wednesday, March 25, nearly 100 PSC members rallied outside CUNY Central calling for the reinstatement of the final member of the “Fired Four.” In summer 2025, four Brooklyn College adjunct professors lost their jobs due to advocacy for Palestinian rights. Following sustained organizing by union, faculty and staff, students and allies, three of the Fired Four have been reinstated. The fourth adjunct has been blacklisted–barred from employment at every single CUNY campus.
At the rally today we delivered a wagon-load of five thousand letters to CUNY executives. Those letters were also sent to Brooklyn College President Michelle Anderson, Provost April Bedford, CUNY Chancellor Félix Matos Rodríguez, and CUNY Board Chairperson William Thompson. Representatives of the university accepted the delivery, which filled five mail crates. Click here to read the news release and see photos and check out the Brooklyn chapter’s Instagram videos.

Testify at the CUNY Board of Trustees Brooklyn Borough Hearing
Monday, April 6, 4:30PM
New York City College of Technology
The Theater at City Tech
285 Jay Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201
Borough hearings of the CUNY Board of Trustees are an opportunity for the CUNY community to demand action from the Board on a wide range of issues.
PSC chapters at City Tech, Brooklyn College, Kingsborough Community College and Medgar Evers College are organizing members to testify at the hearing about the Health and Safety crises on their campuses. You can register with the Secretary of the Board of Trustees to join your colleagues and testify about the crumbling state of your facilities, mold, construction debris, or other threats to health and safety in your workplace. Or sign up with the Secretary to testify about other concerns: the budgetary needs of your department or office, the effects of rising enrollment on your workload, the need for Immigrant Student Success Centers on all campuses, or the need to strengthen – not undermine – First Amendment rights and academic freedom on campuses and end political blacklisting at CUNY. Pre-registration with the Board Secretary is not required if you plan to attend the hearing but not testify.
Persons wishing to testify are required to notify the Office of the Secretary via email at [email protected] PRIOR TO NOON FRIDAY, APRIL 3. Your name, college, and contact information should be included in the email. Copy PSC Communications Director Fran Clark at [email protected] so we know that you will be there. Testimony is limited to three minutes. Substitution of registered speakers is not permitted. Bringing a print version of your statement to submit to the Board when you testify is recommended but not required. Whether you can testify in person or not, written testimony of any length can also be uploaded to the Secretary’s Dropbox at this link before 12:00 noon, Wednesday, April 8th. Here is the official hearing notice.

Dues-paying PSC members can access free services and discounts provided by our state and national affiliates, New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), the National Education Association (NEA), and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
