Bargaining Update 28, August 21
The August 21 session, held at CUNY, covered several topics and represented continued progress in reaching or approaching agreement on some issues. It also clarified some areas of sharp disagreement between the union’s positions and those of management. At the session, the PSC agreed to the temporary extension of two expiring contract pilot programs in exchange for CUNY’s agreement to develop proposals that address job insecurity and benefits inequities for CLIP and CUNY Start teachers. Other topics addressed in the session included annual leave time, pay increases with promotion or reclassification, CLT promotions, equity for adjuncts teaching jumbo courses, and union representation of SEEK and College Discovery directors. The bargaining team was extremely disappointed in CUNY’s response to our Ed Tech demands, which amounted to nothing more than the formation of a labor-management committee on the topic. The union views such a committee as a necessary, but insufficient, measure. Read the full update.
Observe Contract Bargaining
All dues-paying members are welcome to observe a bargaining session, after they have attended the online orientation. Hundreds of PSC members have already, and every observer adds to our power. Your next opportunities to attend an orientation are:
- Wednesday, September 18, at 6:30 PM on Zoom. Register here!
- Monday, October 7, at 6:30 PM on Zoom. Register here!
Civil Disobedience Training
Register here for an in-person Civil Disobedience training in the PSC Union Hall Thursday, September 12, 6:30PM. If we don’t see significant movement toward the contract PSC members deserve, the PSC will be ready to escalate in ways that may involve risking arrest. If the bargaining team determines that an action that includes civil disobedience is necessary, we’ll be prepared.
Survey: Tell Us about Your Experience Learning Brightspace
The PSC has filed a grievance arguing that CUNY has violated our contract by failing to provide any compensation for Brightspace training. As the rollout of this new Learning Management System proceeds across campuses, our members have been spending time to train themselves in Brightspace, as well as to convert their courses to Brightspace. Please complete this survey to assist us in developing this grievance.
