Lobby with Students at PSC’s CUNY at The Council Advocacy Day—Wed., Apr. 24

PSC is partnering with student groups (NYPIRG and CUNY USS) to demand substantial restorations and improvements to the city’s budget for CUNY and financial aid. Together, we will make the case for CUNY at a joint CUNY at the Council advocacy day. Click here to sign up to lobby alongside CUNY students and meet with City Council members in their offices at 250 Broadway on Apr. 24. To review PSC’s city budget platform and learn about trends in City funding for CUNY, click here to download the PSC booklet Invest in Opportunity, Invest in CUNY Community Colleges. Contact Amanda Magalhaes for further details.

PSC Demands an End to Pathways’ CCRCs

The PSC Executive Council unanimously passed a resolution last week objecting to the Office of Academic Affairs’ further extension of the Common Core Course Review Committees (CCRCs) used to circumvent faculty governance. With the expiration of Pathways’ initial CCRCs, Executive Vice Chancellor Logue has created new extra-governance CCRCs to vet courses. The resolution opposes the continued use of CCTCs and calls for their “permanent end.”

Labor Goes to the Movies Presents, The Dupes,—Fri., Apr. 12

PSC’s ongoing film and discussion series continues its theme of Contesting Islamophobia this month with The Dupes (Syria, 1973), a film by Egyptian director Tafiq Saleh. It tells the story of three Palestinian men who attempt to enter into Kuwait to find work. The film’s scathing indictment of corrupt Arab bureaucracies and Palestinian dispossession caused it to be banned throughout the Arab world on its initial release. See it Fri., Apr. 12 at the PSC Union Hall (61 Broadway, 16th floor). Doors open at 6 PM. A discussion will follow the film. Light food and drink provided. There is a $2 suggested donation.

Celebrate Women’s Activism at a Screening of Passionate Politics—Fri., Apr. 19

The PSC Women’s Committee invites you to a screening of Passionate Politics, a documentary about lesbian feminist trailblazer Charlotte Bunch. The film will be shown Fri., Apr. 19 in the PSC Union Hall (61 Broadway, 16th floor). Doors open at 6:30 PM. A discussion with filmmaker Tami Gold will follow the film. Refreshments provided. RSVP with Marcia Newfield at [email protected]. Learn more at passionatepoliticsfilm.com.
