CLT Rights and Benefits

The PSC membership recently approved a new contract, with effective dates from 2023 through 2027. We are working to update our website content to fully reflect the gains made in the new agreement as quickly as possible.

Assignment Differential and Discretionary Step Increases for Excellence in Performance or Increased Responsibilities

The 2023-2027 Contract establishes two ways to recognize eligible CLT-series employees for “excellence in performance” or “increased responsibilities within the title.”

  1. Eligible CLTs and Senior CLTs who have been at the top of their salary schedule for one or more years may be nominated by their supervisor or may self-nominate for a $2,500 assignment differential.
  2. upon the recommendation of their supervisor, CLT-series employees who are not at the top step in their salary schedule are eligible for consideration for a discretionary step increase for “excellence in performance” or “increased responsibilities within the title.”

CLT Handbook

The PSC is updating the CLT Handbook  (6th edition) and the Adjunct CLT Rights and Benefits Brochure to account for the gains won in the 2023-2027 Contract.

The current handbook (5th edition) has multiple purposes:

  • To serve as a compendium of College Laboratory Technicians’ rights and responsibilities
  • To familiarize newly appointed CLTs with the procedures for appointment, reappointment, promotion and other contractual protections.
  • To invite CLTs to contact the chapter officers for advice and help.

This handbook is not an official document, but a simplified guide to your contractual rights under the PSC-CUNY agreement as seen by the PSC.

The official documents to consult are the Bylaws of the Board of Trustees of CUNY, the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the PSC and CUNY (the contract), the written policies of the Board of Trustees and your college governance document. There are also arbitration awards and grievance decisions in which contractual rights and responsibilities have been delineated.
