The PSC offers our heartfelt condolences to all who have suffered personal and material losses as a result of Superstorm Sandy. Those members who have opened their hearts and homes to colleagues and volunteered in the recovery are an inspiration to us all. As the University begins to restore day-to-day operations, the union will do our best to provide clear information to our members and ensure fair and consistent treatment of all CUNY faculty and staff.
The PSC office and the PSC/CUNY Welfare Fund office are open (both at 61 Broadway on the 15th floor) but our phone and internet services are not operational. To contact the union, email a message to [email protected]. Union staff will check that email account regularly, and the appropriate staff member will respond to messages as soon as possible. Please also note that some of this week’s union meetings have been rescheduled and others will go ahead as planned. Pathways Grievance Hearing
As the implementation of Pathways has gone forward despite intense faculty opposition, the CUNY administration has violated faculty governance rights, as established in the CUNY Bylaws and enacted through campus governance plans, and has undermined academic freedom. More specifically, CUNY has bypassed the governance processes at eleven campuses: Baruch, Brooklyn, BMCC, City College, City Tech, College of Staten Island, John Jay, Lehman, Medgar Evers, QCC and York.
Representatives of the aggrieved faculty from those campuses will be present at 10:00 AM this Friday morning at CUNY Central (535 East 80th St.) at a Step 2 hearing to examine the union’s grievance relating to these violations. This hearing is a first step in an often long process leading to arbitration. By filing the grievance, the union has opened a new front in the campaign to oppose Pathways. It is part of the larger Pathways strategy that already includes a campus-based organizing campaign calling for a moratorium on Pathways implementation and two lawsuits.
