This Week in the PSC (10.04.16): PSC Office Phones Are Working Again

Oct 31, 2016

PSC Office Phones Are Working Again

A new phone system was installed at the PSC main office over the long weekend causing an interruption in the union’s ability to receive incoming calls. The phones were expected to be working by Tuesday morning. Unfortunately, the new service provider experienced a widespread regional outage for much of the day Tuesday. The phones work now. We apologize for any inconvenience the outage caused.

#ReclaimOurSchools Infrastructure Campaign Starts Thurs., Oct. 6

Every year, CUNY requests funding to keep its campuses in good repair, but Albany and City Hall respond with budgets that don’t prioritize our working and learning conditions. There’s always some money for infrastructure and repairs in the final budget, and CUNY’s maintenance staff do the best they can under the circumstances, but it’s never enough.

You can help demand more State and City investment in CUNY’s physical plant by snapping and sharing a few quick cell-phone photos of leaky ceilings, damaged walls, busted equipment—anything that needs fixing around your campus. Take the photos and share them starting this Thurs., Oct 6 on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook with the hashtag #ReclaimOurSchools. PSC chapters at Brooklyn College, Bronx Community College, Hostos Community College and Lehman College are taking the lead on this campaign to publicize needed repairs and upgrades at CUNY, but anyone can take part. Commit to help and spread the word by clicking “going” on the #ReclaimOurSchools Facebook event. Learn more.

Pledge to Vote

Volunteer to Help Get Out the Vote

The stakes are high for the November 8 General Election, not only for the presidential race, but also for down-ballot federal and state elections that may determine the future of national higher education policy and state funding for CUNY. PSC members have already made thousands of calls to identify and turn out voters who support Hillary Clinton and the union’s other priority candidates; they will make thousands more calls before Election Day. Phone banks are scheduled every Wednesday evening between now and November 8, and other GOTV opportunities are soon to be announced. PSC members can take the NYSUT Pledge to Vote here and sign up to help mobilize voters here.

Annual Budget Presentation

The union’s proposed annual budget for FY 2016-17 will be available for review by PSC Delegates and members at 5:00 PM, before the October Delegate Assembly next Thurs., Oct. 13. All members are welcome to attend and ask questions. The budget report will take place in the PSC Union Hall (61 Broadway, 16th Floor).
