Do Your Part to Help Win this Election
Does this presidential election have you fearful about the future of our country? Did the high stakes of the first presidential debate have you on the edge of your seat? Are you following the latest news about corruption in Albany? Are you still angry about last year’s bruising state budget fight, when we fought off a proposed $485-million cut to CUNY’s state funding in the midst of our contract campaign? If so, then it’s time to do more than vote. It’s time to GOTV—get out the vote.
PSC members have already made thousands of voter ID and get-out-the-vote calls and will make thousands more before the November 8 General Election. Labor Walks to win the White House and reshape the State Senate are also in the works. Phone banks are scheduled every Wednesday evening between now and November 8, and other GOTV opportunities are soon to be announced. PSC members can sign up here.
Take the NYSUT Pledge to Vote!
At a time when the richest, most powerful corporate special interests in the nation have joined forces to destroy unions, to privatize public services for their own profit, and to disenfranchise and disempower working people for their own gain, VOTING is an important way to fight back to defend our rights, our profession, and our future. Click here to stand up to defend unions and our profession by pledging to vote this year.
Walk for Equity in School Funding, Oct. 2-11
Join PSC Members for the Kick-off in NYC, Sun., Oct. 2, 9:30 AM
Ten years ago the State Court of Appeals ordered Albany to increase funding for many school districts to comply with the state constitution’s requirement that all children receive a “sound basic education.” But Albany isn’t providing the court-ordered funding, and many Black, Latino, and low-income students are still suffering from systemic neglect. The Alliance for Quality Education is walking 150 miles to Albany to demand that NYS fully fund education in every district in New York. The CUNY Rising Alliance is supporting the effort, and you can too, by walking the NYC leg of the journey or attending the kick-off event at Tweed Courthouse, Sun., Oct. 2 at 9:30 AM. Click here to sign up with AQE.
