Volunteer to Help Get Out the Vote
PSC members are volunteering to help elect Bill de Blasio as mayor and the union’s other endorsed candidates. This election is a real chance to have a progressive mayor and a City Council who will fight for good jobs, better schools, accessible public higher education and economic justice in our city. Union members can click here to sign up for phone banking and other get-out-the-vote activities for the primary election on September 10.
A policy speech from De Blasio which lays out his plans for the City is available here online. (He talks about increasing City funding for CUNY at about the 21 minute mark.) More information about PSC’s other endorsees is here on the PSC website.
50th Anniversary March on Washington
More than 200 union members, CUNY students and community members traveled to Washington D.C. and back with the PSC this past Saturday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. It was a long, at times difficult but ultimately rich and joyous day serving to renew our commitment to the fight against racism and take a stand against the recent attack on voting rights.
Photos of the march from PSC retiree Greg Dunkel are online here. Other photos and videos of some of the speeches are posted here on the New York Times blog, The Lede.
