Future issues of “This Week” will contain updates on the union’s work over the summer on Pathways, pressure for a new contract, and protection of your rights at work. Considering Retirement? RSVP for PSC’s Pre-Retirement Conference
CUNY faculty and staff planning to retire in the next five years are invited to a Pre-Retirement Conference organized by the union’s pension and retirement experts. The day-long conference on Friday, September 21 at the CUNY Graduate Center’s Proshansky Auditorium will provide information about filing for retirement, Social Security, PSC-CUNY Welfare-Fund benefits and financial planning. A $30 fee for the event covers a continental breakfast, lunch and a packet of planning materials. Space is limited. Answering Questions about the Adjunct Health Insurance Benefit
More than one hundred twenty people attended a packed Q&A session for adjunct health insurance participants last Wednesday at the PSC union hall. At the Q&A, President Barbara Bowen, VP for Part-Time Personnel Marcia Newfield and Welfare Fund Director Larry Morgan fielded dozens of important questions addressing issues such as how to enroll in the current benefit program, which the Trustees voted to extend until September 30 (Read Current Adjunct Health Insurance Extended Through Sept. 30) and next steps in the campaign for a new contract were also covered in the Q&A.
March with Us at the Labor Day Parade—September 8
The theme for this year’s Labor Day march is “Strength, Pride, Unity.” We’re proud of the progress the PSC has made for our members and proud of the protections that unions have won for all workers. We have much to be proud of, but millions remain unemployed or underemployed. Wage cuts, furloughs, and benefit and pensions reductions are a constant threat. Many workers do not have health insurance or pensions, and fights for “liveable” wages and paid sick leave are active in NYC. Public employees are demonized, and the very right of unions to organize is in jeopardy. Unions need a show of strength and unity right now as a major election approaches. Join us!
PSC members will meet at 10:45 AM on Saturday, September 8 in front of the Roosevelt Hotel on the north side of East 45th Street between Madison and Vanderbilt before marching as a union to our part of the staging area. Did You Receive Your Copy of the August Clarion?
We’ve had some reports of members not receiving the August issue of Clarion, though they usually get the paper with no problem. This end-of-summer issue was sent to all members at their home addresses. If you did not yet receive the August issue, please fill out this online form. We’ll send you a replacement copy, and this will also give us a clearer idea of how widespread the problem is.
