CUNY Writers Against Austerity
A reading In Defense of CUNY
More than fifty writers of poetry and fiction will take a stand against the continued fiscal starvation of CUNY this Sunday, March 20 from 4-7 p.m. at Cooper Union’s Great Hall (7 East 7th Street). It will be the largest ever public performance by CUNY writers, a three-hour marathon reading in support of the PSC contract fight. It’s an event not to be missed. Join us. Facebook users can RSVP and help spread the word on this event page. Here is a flier to share with friends and colleagues.
“Don’t Let CUNY Die” Protest—March 24, 4-5:30 PM
With the State budget negotiations in the final weeks and money for the PSC-CUNY contract still on the table along with a $485 million cut to CUNY’s state funding, CUNY faculty, staff and students are turning up the heat on Governor Cuomo. Union members will demonstrate at Governor Cuomo’s NYC office on Thursday, March 24 at 4:00-5:30 p.m.to demand economic justice for those who work and study at CUNY. We will call for a State budget that increases–rather than decreases–funding for CUNY, and for the funds we need to settle the PSC contract.
Some participants in the protest will be prepared to risk arrest in a non-violent action. All are welcome to join us in the protest, but anyone interested in risking arrest is required to attend a two-hour PSC training prior to the action. The training will provide more information and prepare you to undertake the action safely and strongly. It is one of the most powerful things we can do; please consider joining.
