Watch Online: President Bowen to Testify at State Budget Hearing
The Legislature’s day-long joint public hearing on funding for higher education in the Governor’s Executive Budget is this Wednesday from 9:30 AM to 5 PM. PSC President Barbara Bowen will testify at the hearing alongside leaders from United University Professions and New York State United Teachers. PSC’s testimony will highlight important positive developments in the Governor’s budget plan and make the case for more investment in CUNY. Video of the hearing will be streamed online on the Senate and Assembly websites and posted on the Senate’s video archive. Start-time for the PSCs testimony varies from year to year; check online starting at about 11:00 AM to make sure you don’t miss it.
PSC Members’ Opportunities to Help Persuade the Legislature
On March 5-6, PSC members will join colleagues from across the state to urge elected officials in Albany to reinvest in public higher education. Then on March 14, we will rally and lobby in Albany again, this time with students and SUNY colleagues at a statewide Student/Faculty/Staff Action Day. Other advocacy days in Albany are scheduled for March 19-20 and May 21-22, and PSC members are meeting with lawmakers in their districts throughout the semester. We’ll press for tax fairness and restoration of CUNY funding at each meeting and urge the Legislature to fund CUNY’s mandatory needs, including adjunct health insurance. We will also demand that lawmakers reject the Governor’s call for a new pension tier (PSC’s full platform).
