PSC Statement on the Killing of Two Police Officers
The Professional Staff Congress/CUNY condemns the murder of Detectives Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos. During this period of mourning, we send our deepest sympathy to their families, friends and colleagues. Even though many classes are not in session, PSC colleagues have held moments of silence in their memory at several colleges.
The PSC will continue to work peacefully for a justice system that is fair to all and for a world no longer deformed by racism. Those are goals that can unite us all.
Our Condolences to Governor Cuomo
The PSC officers, on behalf of the membership, extend our deep condolences to Governor Andrew Cuomo on the loss of his father, former Governor Mario Cuomo. To remember him, watch this video of his keynote address at the 1984 Democratic National Convention.

8,600+ Have Signed the Contract Campaign Petition
The contract campaign petition is still growing. If you haven’t signed the online or paper version of the petition already, add your name today to the union’s message to Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio calling for immediate action to enable a fair resolution of our contract.
Arthurine DeSola, Secretary of the PSC, Speaks about the Contract
If you haven’t added your name already, please join PSC’s Secretary, Arthurine DeSola, a long-time HEO from Queensborough Community College, in signing the petition to Governor Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio. Here’s one reason she signed:
“…I call on you today to address the urgent cry from HEOs across the University for the professionalism and respect we deserve. CUNY relies on us to do professional work; CUNY should treat us as professionals. That means adding a system that recognizes and rewards us when our work expands significantly and our job performance redefines our jobs.” (Testimony at the CUNY Board of Trustees Hearing, 11/24/14
Save these Spring 2015 Dates for the CUNY Budget Campaign
The PSC is partnering with NYSUT and United University Professions (UUP) as well as student organizations like NYPIRG to organize meetings with lawmakers in Albany and City Hall about the need to increase funding for CUNY, expand financial aid and pass legislation that supports the university community. Faculty, staff and students are the best advocates for the University because they speak from personal experience about the triumphs and challenges of working and learning at CUNY. That’s why we need you to save these dates on your spring calendar:
- NYSUT Higher Education Lobby Day (Albany): Tues., Feb. 24 – Wed., Feb. 25. We’ll be joined by NYPIRG and other student organizations for afternoon meetings on Wed., Feb. 25.
- NYSUT Committee of 100 (Albany): Mon., Mar. 2 – Tues., Mar. 3
- CUNY at the Council (New York City): Wed., Apr. 29.
