On December 31st, 2025, PSC President James Davis released the following statement:
“The PSC/CUNY is thrilled by the appointment of our member, Ramzi Kassem, to serve as Chief Counsel in the Mamdani administration. Professor Kassem’s work as the founding director of the CLEAR Center at the CUNY School of Law, including his defense of Mahmoud Khalil in the face of attempted deportation over political speech, is a source of pride for our members and the CUNY community. We are confident that Professor Kassem will do extraordinary work as Chief Counsel, and are grateful that Mayor-elect Mamdani continues to rely on the deep expertise of CUNY faculty as he builds an historic administration.”
