It's a Heat Wave

Today is the second day of the summer and the second day of an official heat wave. The Weather Service forecasts temperatures to reach 98 degrees with a heat index of up to 104 degrees. The Weather Service has issued a heat and air quality advisory for today which can be dangerous for persons with preexisting respiratory problems. A toll free air quality hotline can be access at 1-800-535-1345.

If any one on your campus is experiencing excessive temperatures or problems with air quality in his or her room or work area, encourage them to call or email the Building and Grounds Department on your campus. The general duty clause of the Public Employees Safety and Health agency which is also part of the PSC contract, states that “you have a right to a place of employment that is free from recognized hazards.” If a work area is not air conditioned, encourage your colleagues to request temporary relocation to an appropriate work area.

If you have any questions, you can contact PSC Environmental Health and Safety at [email protected].

CUNY's Microsoft email has a security block for mass mailings that has held up some of our emails. A few thousand members have already voted, and we will all have the chance to vote. AAA believes they have a workaround, and they will again send out the message to all eligible members who have not yet voted. The emails will begin to go out in batches tonight, Monday, December 23rd. It may take a while to land in your inbox, (spam, or junk mail.)
