Disdain for Adjuncts

Top slideshow:

How some among faculty express their disdain, subtly or not. How news reporting generally says how bad adjunct teaching is. Being afraid to ask for exceptions or rocking the boat in any way. The constant drain on one’s energy and soul of being contingent and disposable. Classroom: the schedule is full, and smaller things get short shrift, at the best of times, but there is little or no room for irregularities or emergencies. In those cases, one cuts what one needs to cut, to get by.

Chairs: by and large ok, with two exceptions (neither chairs, but overseeing a program). One was disturbing (I had no standing to push from) but passed soon enough.

And of course, one always knows that adjuncts are un-hirable.
