Learn about the American Federation of Teachers’ Green New Deal for Schools Initiative & How it Can Affect CUNY

CUNY is poised to get funds from the federal infrastructure bill for climate preparedness and renewable energy, but how will those funds be spent? Who will influence the process? What will it achieve? How can we work with students and communities to expand environmental justice?

David Boundy
will be our guest speaker. He is the American Federation of Teachers’ (AFT) first Climate Coordinator and we’ll want to greet him with the full attendance and attention of our climate activists, both in the working group and beyond. All faculty, staff, students and local activists are invited. Please help spread the word. David will share with us the AFT’s expanding work on climate and how we can participate.

For 30 years, David Boundy has led political and legislative campaigns for working families, a cleaner environment and safer communities. Boundy directed the national AFL-CIO’s political and legislative campaign efforts. He created and advised For Our Future, the largest field superPAC in the country. He managed and advised national campaigns to lower carbon emissions for the environmental community and former Vice President Al Gore. As Political Director of the Democratic National Committee, he co-managed the 2007-2008 primary process, oversaw the “50-state strategy,” and helped assemble the national voter file used to elect Barack Obama to the White House. Boundy advises progressive advocacy groups and national unions, which have included MoveOn, the Clean Air Defense Campaign, Repower America, Clean Energy Works, the Human Rights Campaign, America Coming Together, SEIU, and the Sierra Club.

CUNY's Microsoft email has a security block for mass mailings that has held up some of our emails. A few thousand members have already voted, and we will all have the chance to vote. AAA believes they have a workaround, and they will again send out the message to all eligible members who have not yet voted. The emails will begin to go out in batches tonight, Monday, December 23rd. It may take a while to land in your inbox, (spam, or junk mail.)
