Please join PSC members, their families and friends at the Labor Day Parade on Saturday, September 12. The PSC contingent will assemble on 45th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues at 11 am. We are scheduled to march at 11:30.
This year’s theme is “We Are NYC”. In the words of the parade’s sponsor, the Central Labor Council, “Each day, we go to work and do our part to help keep New York City going. We are teachers, construction workers, supermarket workers, doctors, bus operators, firefighters, and representatives of many other industries. We take pride in doing our part in helping to keep New York a world-class city. WE are NYC.”
As faculty and staff of CUNY, we will celebrate our own role in building and sustaining this city. Nevertheless, we must remind our union brothers and sisters as well as the rest of NYC that we are in the midst of a protracted struggle for a new contract. Chronic underfunding of CUNY by both city and state threatens our mission of providing a quality education to those New Yorkers in the greatest need of such investment. Five years without a contract for CUNY’s faculty and staff is simply unconscionable and immoral.
The Labor Day Parade is an opportunity for us to make an important statement to the larger City about our members’ contributions to CUNY and to NYC and the importance of our achieving a fair contract.
Join us on September 12. Wear your “5 Years Without a Contact” tee shirts.
