PSC/CUNY – MEDGAR EVERS COLLEGE CHAPTER

MEETING HELD WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2015, 11.30AM IN ROOM B2008, NORMAN & MIRIAM JOHNSON LECTURE HALL

The meeting was called to order by Dr. Clinton Crawford, Chair, PSC/ MEC who welcomed all in attendance.

The minutes of November 12 and December 10, 2014 were approved as read.

Dr. Crawford appealed for assistance from chapter members in the preparation of lunch on a monthly basis.

The Contract: The PSC has been working hard to settle a contract that is beneficial to the membership, one that can sustain us at a minimum living wage. All in attendance were encouraged to participate in speaking with local officials regarding their effort in pressuring Gov. Coumo to settle the contract with the PSC and CUNY. It was noted that the Chancellor and the Mayor are on our side but our enemies are in the State House.

Suggestion: It was suggested that a letter be sent to state representatives requesting their support in persuading the Governor to settle this contract. Volunteers in crafting the letter were: John Flateau, David Hatchett, Angela Eustace, and Raquel Bennett.

LM Meeting Agenda:

  1. Parking Lot Security
  2. Problem with being monitored by use of new keys
    • Need to know how information is being used
    • Collective bargaining agreement does not call for 3-day rule
    • Inability to enter one’s office before 8am
    • Keys not programed for fire exit lock
  3. IT Projectors not being positioned in Center of some classrooms for all students to see adequately

Tenure and Promotion: Concern was expressed regarding an apparent change of the standards toward tenure and promotion. The Chair pointed out that the last document regarding this matter, which is posted on the website, was ratified in 2008, and it is the responsibility of the Faculty Senate to change the standards. He promised to send the agreement to the membership.

All faculty and staff are asked to check personal and personal personnel files in the Office of Human Resources (HR) and Department office respectively. Be sure to initial and date every page. It is the College’s responsibility to recreate missing files.
