This Week in the PSC (09.15.15): Register for the Wake Up Call for Chancellor Milliken

Sep 15, 2015

Wake Up Call for Chancellor Milliken—Thurs., Oct. 1

PSC members and allies will deliver a “wake-up call” to Chancellor Milliken at his CUNY-funded, $19,500-a-month Manhattan apartment on the morning of Thursday, October 1. We need you there at the protest outside the chancellor’s building (East 68th Street & 2nd Ave.) from 8:00-9:00 AM to demand a fair contract and a raise for all CUNY faculty and professional staff. Register here to let us know we can count on you. Here’s a flier you can download and share with colleagues.

Emergency Contract Campaign Chapter Meetings Continue this Week

Chapters have been meeting to plan the escalation of the campaign for a new PSC-CUNY contract. Check the online calendar for information about remaining dates. At the meetings we’re developing mobilization plans for the Wake-up Call for Chancellor Milliken (October 1) and creating local “Teach CUNY” curricula to engage students more in the campaign (most events October 19-30). Also on the agenda: movement toward a Disruptive Mass Action in early November and a Mass Meeting of the PSC on November 19. Come to a meeting and help make the plan your own. If you haven’t yet, register here to let us know we can count on you in the contract fight.

Labor Day Parade 2015

PSC members carried their #CUNYNEEDSARAISE signs at the Labor Day parade on Saturday. DC37 members who work at CUNY were also there with #CUNYCONTRACTNOW signs. Follow the union (@PSC_CUNY) and both hashtags on Twitter to see photos from the parade and updates on the contract campaign. Members are also tweeting with the hashtag #RESPECTCUNY.

Labor Goes to the Movies Presents Citizenfour—Fri., Sept. 18

The theme of this year’s Labor Goes to the Movies film series is “surveillance.” We explore the theme Fri., Sept. 18 in the PSC Union Hall (61 Broadway, 16th floor) with a screening and discussion of Citzenfour (Poitras, US, 2014). The film documents the initial interviews Glenn Greenwald and Ewen MacAskill conducted with Edward J. Snowden while U.S. intelligence was hot on his trail, interviews that resulted in the publication of his world-shaking revelations about NSA spying. Refreshments provided. $2 suggested donation. Doors open at 6 PM. Learn more.
