This Week in the PSC

This Week in the PSC (09.05.18): Contract Demonstration Sept. 27 | Endorsements for 2018

Dec 29, 2018

Contract Demonstration, Thurs., Sept. 27, 4-6PM
Financial District

On Thursday, September 27 PSC members will gather for a contract demonstration at the NY Stock Exchange (corner of Wall St. and Broad St.). We will march through the Financial District to demand a fair contract and to protest the economic inequality that denies resources to CUNY students and those who work with them. The way the PSC has won contracts in the past is through public, collective action and resistance. That’s why everyone who cares about a raise and a contract needs to be there. Our union is stronger than ever – it’s time to make that strength felt. Click here to let us know you’ll be there.

Fall 2018 Adjunct Pay Dates

For the Fall 2018 semester, teaching adjuncts are scheduled to be paid on eight successive pay dates at two-week intervals. At the senior colleges, the first pay date will be September 13 and the last pay date will be December 20. At most community colleges, the first pay date will be September 7 and the last pay date will be December 14. Kingsborough CC, LaGuardia CC and Guttman CC (dates not posted on Payroll webpage) operate on a different academic calendar with different pay dates.

PSC Endorsements 2018

New Yorkers will head to the polls on Thursday, September 13 to choose their party candidates for Governor, Attorney General and members of the Assembly and State Senate. PSC members can click here to volunteer to join the union’s get-out-the-vote effort. We will be phone banking for our endorsed candidates most evenings between 5:30 and 8:30 PM at the main PSC office at 61 Broadway. You can also sign up to make calls from home via the Virtual Phone Bank.

March with the PSC in the 2018 NYC Labor Day Parade, Sat., Sept. 8

New York is a union town and PSC membership is now higher than at any time in the union’s history! Join your PSC/CUNY colleagues and the rest of the NYC labor movement on Saturday, September 8 to show the strength and solidarity of unions in our city. Union members in our city remain committed and engaged despite the Supreme Court’s attack on unions. PSC members will be marching with “Union Proud” signs and “7K for Adjuncts” t-shirts. Email [email protected] to let us know you’ll be there with us. The staging area for PSC members and other education unions will be on West 44th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. We are scheduled to begin marching at 10:15 AM. Download a flier and help spread the word on Facebook.

Rise for Climate, Jobs, and Justice, Thurs., Sept. 6

The PSC is part of People’s Climate March-NY, a coalition of labor, environmental, and community groups pushing to implement a just transition to 100% renewable energy, halt all fossil fuel infrastructure and make polluters pay. Join us for a march through Lower Manhattan for climate, jobs and justice this Thursday, September 6. PSC members will meet in front of the Table Green snack bar south of the Sea Glass Carousel in Battery Park at 5:30 PM. We will be marching with the labor contingent, so look for our red “In Solidarity” signs.

The September 6 march in NYC will precede a national day of action on Saturday, September 8, the weekend before the Global Climate Summit in San Francisco, September 12-14. Click here to register for the march at the PCM-NY website and here to invite friends to the Facebook event.
