This Week in the PSC (02.29.12): Thursday, March 8: Town Hall Meeting on Pathways

Feb 29, 2012

Thursday, March 8: Town Hall Meeting on Pathways:

On March 8, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m., the PSC will hold a Town Hall Meeting on Pathways, CUNY’s controversial overhaul of general education “If you are one of the thousands of faculty and staff across CUNY who have struggled with Pathways and who have something to say, don’t miss this chance to be heard,” writes PSC President Barbara Bowen in a letter to union members. “We can show the depth of our objection to Pathways by coming in large numbers on March 8.” Let us know you’re coming by responding here.

The latest Clarion features coverage of the growing opposition to Pathways, and what PSC members have to say about Pathways, and its effects on students’ education. The Town Hall Meeting will be held at 40 East 35th Street; details and a flyer are available here.

Join the Battle of the Budget on March 14

Come to Albany on Wednesday, March 14, for a statewide Student-Faculty-Staff Higher Education Action Day. PSC members and CUNY students are joining with faculty, staff and students from SUNY to push for reinvestment in higher education. Take the day and make a difference: the results of this year’s budget decisions will be seen on your campus next year, and for years to come.

CUNY faculty and staff can contact Amanda Magalhaes (by e-mail, or at 212-354-1252 x221) to sign up to participate. CUNY students can sign up by stopping by their local student government or NYPIRG office. Other advocacy days in Albany are scheduled for March 19-20 and May 21-22; PSC members are also meeting with lawmakers locally throughout the semester.

Stop the attack on public-worker pensions

Speak out against proposals to slash the pension benefits of future New York public employees, including CUNY faculty and staff. The NYS AFL-CIO is calling for a flood of faxes and phone calls (call 1- 877-255-9417) to Albany on Thursday, March 1: take a minute and add your voice. The current Clarion reports on pension attacks in both the public and private sectors – and how they’re related.
