The New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health (NYCOSH) is spreading the word about the extended application deadline (Oct 3.) for the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund and the WTC Health Program. Read more about both programs at the NYCOSH website.

WTC Health Program

The WTC Health Program, which offers free monitoring and treatment for covered conditions to those who may have been exposed to toxins at Ground Zero, can still take new applicants. Tens of thousands of people are eligible for free medical exams and treatment for 9/11 injuries and medication under the WTC Health Program created by the Zadroga Act, including those who lived and worked in Lower Manhattan and downtown Brooklyn in the year following September 11, 2001 and those who were only in the dust cloud for a short time. Even twelve years later, many of are not aware that is available. Click here for an application or call 888-982-4748 to apply.

Victim Compensation Fund

The law allows 9/11 Responders and Survivors who became ill or the loved ones of those who have passed due to 9/11 injuries and illnesses to apply for compensation for economic and non-economic (pain and suffering) losses stemming from their physical injuries or illnesses. (Survivors include residents, students and area workers whose health was harmed by the WTC disaster.)

While the Health Program can still take new applicants, the clock is ticking for injured 9/11 Survivors and Responders to register claims with the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund (“VCF”) for economic losses due to their 9/11 injuries. Most injured Responders and Survivors must complete online registration by October 3rd, 2013. Those who have enrolled in the World Trade Center Health Program, filed with the N.Y.S Worker’s Compensation Board or your Pension Board, or enrolled in the WTC Health Registry, STILL NEED TO REGISTER WITH THE VCF. 911 Heath Watch is a good source for information and links for the VCF.
