PSC President James Davis and PSC Retirees Chapter Chair Bill Friedheim testified today before the NYC Council Committee on Civil Service and Labor about the City’s planned shift of municipal retiree healthcare from Medicare to a privately administered Medicare Advantage plan.

“The PSC and our Welfare Fund were flooded with phone calls and emails from distraught retirees whose doctors told them they would not accept this new coverage,” President Davis testified. He went on to urge the Council to “exercise strict, continuous oversight of this transition, to ensure that the City and the Alliance keep their promises, are transparent, and move assiduously to address the concerns retirees are raising, so their anxiety and hardship are alleviated before establishing a new opt out deadline.” Read the full testimony of President James Davis.

Retirees Chapter Chair Bill Friedheim said bluntly that CUNY Retirees are “Angry. Anxious. Traumatized.” He urged the Council to continue its oversight and to “Tell NYC to hit the pause button, to stop implementation of this plan, and to honor its commitments to its retired workforce.” Read the full testimony of Retiree Chapter Chair Bill Friedheim.
