Academic Freedom is Under Attack as Never Before

Joan Wallach Scott and Henry Reichman, both long-time members of the AAUP Committee on Academic Freedom and Tenure, will talk about academic freedom, its difference from the right of free speech, as well as about the history and current attacks on it.

Using recent cases, they will also talk about the kind of responses that have been developed, those that work and those that don’t. Each has just published a book on the topic: Reichman, The Future of Academic Freedom (Johns Hopkins University Press), and Scott, Knowledge, Power, and Academic Freedom (Columbia University Press). Their talks will be based on material in their books.
