It's time to elect lawmakers who will increase investment in CUNY, and representatives in Washington who will oppose the hateful rhetoric and harmful policies of the Trump Administration. To join the PSC’s election campaign work, click here!

The General Election is Tuesday, November 6th. In New York City polling places are open from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Voters in need of information can check the Board of Elections’ online poll site locator or call 1-866-VOTE-NYC.

PSC members are going all in on these three NYS Senate and Congressional races that could change the balance of power in the (now IDC-free) NYS Senate and help take back the U.S. House of Representatives from the Party of Trump.

Vote Andrew Gounardes for NYS Senate
Andrew Gounardes (Brooklyn, SD 22)grew up in Bay Ridge, attended local public schools and graduated from Hunter College. He earned his law degree at George Washington University and, most recently, worked as general counsel for the Brooklyn Borough President. Andrew understands the needs of the community and he will be a strong advocate for CUNY and SUNY. He's running for Senate to fix the streets and subways, and provide free, quality public education from pre-K through college. If he wins, the senate in Albany could have its first pro-union, pro-CUNY democratic majority in 40 years.

Vote John Liu for NYS Senate
John Liu (Queens, SD 11) is the former NYC Comptroller and NYC Council member, and first Asian-American elected to citywide office. John currently teaches municipal finance and public policy as an adjunct lecturer at Baruch College. He has been a champion for public higher education, CUNY and the PSC. We need him in Albany now more than ever. In his years as Comptroller and on the Council, John took on the hard fights: advocating wage standards and protecting city workers’ pensions and health benefits, and opposing the privatization of city services. He fought for greater transparency in city economic development programs, and for increasing investment in education, affordable housing and public transportation. If he wins, the senate in Albany could have its first pro-union, pro-CUNY democratic majority in 40 years.

Vote Max Rose for Congress
Max Rose (Staten Island/Brooklyn, CD11) is an Army veteran of the war in Afghanistan, and continues to serve in the National Guard. He graduated from Wesleyan University, earned a Master’s degree at the London School of Economics, and was a Rhodes Scholar. After Afghanistan, Max helped lead a restorative justice program for the late Brooklyn DA Kenneth Thompson, and then became chief of staff for Brightpoint Health, a Staten Island, non-profit operating healthcare clinics, food pantries and substance abuse programs. We need Max in Congress to defend our rights and prevent the worst of the Trump Administration’s policies from coming to pass. He will fight to improve public transportation, roads and bridges, defend Social Security, expand Medicare, and put limits on run-away college student debt.

The PSC's statewide affiliate, New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), has released its list of endorsed candidates for General election. The NYSUT endorsements come out of a process that involves the PSC and many other unions. PSC representatives advocated strongly for our choices and in many cases those candidates were endorsed by NYSUT. The PSC is also affiliated with the New York State AFL-CIO and the Working Families Party and participates in their endorsement processes.
