psc budget campaign: 2008-9

BUILDING THE 21st
CENTURY CUNY

STATE BUDGET | CITY BUDGET

the web
psc-cuny.org

The state and city both fund CUNY -- and the PSC has mounted vigorous political campaigns at both levels.  We have created separate pages for the state and city campaigns on this web site.  A brief update on both appears below.

State Budget Update

The state has passed a budget.  Click here for a preliminary analysis by our state affiliate, NYSUT.

City Budget Campaign Underway

Mayor Bloomberg has proposed $65 million in cuts to CUNY’s budget. We must act now to make sure those cuts are restored by the City Council and new funds added to meet critical needs at every CUNY campus. Budget cuts would mean increased class sizes, course cancellations, reduced library hours and deteriorating facilities. We need every CUNY student, parent, faculty, staff and community supporter to contact the Council Speaker and the Mayor to make sure they understand: CUNY can’t afford budget cuts, and New Yorkers can’t afford to lose CUNY. We need your help to make this happen. We need every PSC member to fill out and sign a CUNY Rising postcard to the City Council, and then to gather filled-out postcards from others. Contact your chapter chair for postcards. In addition, we are urging all members to go to send letters to the Mayor, the Speaker and their Council Member by clicking here.
