Subject: Death Threats against SINTRAUNICOL 

Dear Dr. Alvaro Uribe Vélez: 

On Saturday 30 October, a leaflet was delivered to the offices of
SINTRAUNICOL in Bogotá, threatening several of the union
leadership. It read, in part, as follows:

“The National University Commando AUC will therefore kill the
following guerrillas: Antonio Flores, Milena Cobos, Ariel Diaz,
Carlos Gonzalez, Eduardo Camacho and Alvaro Villamizar. They will
be executed this term.We warn that all other members of this organisation must  renounce their membership now. The trade union must disappear.” 

We ask that: 

The lives and the physical and psychological well being of ANTONIO
FLORES, MILENA COBO, ARIEL DIAZ, CARLOS GONZALEZ, EDUARDO CAMACHO and ALVARO VILLAMIZAR and all other members of SINTRAUNICOL are protected;

Investigations are immediately carried out into these events, and
all the cases of persecution against SINTRAUNICOL, so that those
responsible for these threats and persecution are brought to
justice;

The state guarantees the right to trade union activity in Colombia,
both for SINTRAUNICOL and all other trade unions in the country, in
conformity with the recommendations of International Organisations
in this field;

The autonomy of the universities, academic freedom and freedom of
expression in Colombian universities is respected and guaranteed.

Subject: amenazas contra SINTRAUNICOL 

Estimado Dr. Uribe: 

El día sábado 30 de octubre llegó a las instalaciones de Sintraunicol Seccional Bogotá un panfleto en el cual los "Comandos Nacionales Universitarios" de las AUC amenazan de muerte a varios miembros de Sintraunicol: ‘Los Comandos Nacionales Universitarios - AUC entregamos parte de muerte para los siguientes guerrilleros: Antonio Flores, Milena
Cobos, Ariel Díaz, Carlos Gonzáles, Eduardo Camacho y Alvaro Villamizar, quienes deberán ser ejecutados en este trimestre.

Hacemos un Cordial llamado para que otros integrantes en todo el
país que han sido advertidos se desvinculen de su organización o
mejor aún que desaparezca su sindicato.’ 

SOLICITAMOS

1. Se garantice la vida e integridad física y psicológica de ANTONIO FLORES, MILENA COBO, ARIEL DIAZ, CARLOS GONZALES, EDUARDO CAMACHO Y ALVARO VILLAMIZAR y demás miembros de SINTRAUNICOL.

2. Se adelanten las investigaciones relacionadas con estos hechos, así como de los que en el transcurso del tiempo se han venido cometiendo en contra del sindicato de SINTRAUNICOL con el fin de juzgar y sancionar a los responsables de las amenazas y hostigamientos de los que han sido víctimas

3. Se garantice por parte de las autoridades estatales el libre ejercicio de la actividad sindical de SINTRAUNICOL, así como de las demás organizaciones de trabajadores de conformidad con las disposiciones y recomendaciones de organismos supranacionales en la materia

4. Se garantice la autonomía universitaria, la libertad de cátedra y el ejercicio de la libertad de expresión al interior de las universidades e instituciones educativas colombianas.
